WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? “Only about 2% of all venture funding goes to women!” “< 1% of angel seed funding & venture capital funding is going to Hispanic & African-American startup founders”
A LOSS OF RESOURCES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENTREPRENEURS AND INVESTORS!
How the Program Works
About the program "Startup Inclusion Program" was developed by ASI to provide resources and opportunities for women, minority and disadvantaged entrepreneurs developing startups to increase their odds of success and to raise capital from investors. The program will run for 3 months for entrepreneurs. We will enrol 2-3 groups of startups (depending on the numbers already enrolled). The followings are what you need to know before applying:
The first enrolment ends Sept 30th 2018 and the group enrolled during that time can start their 3 months program online.
The program has qualitative and quantitative parts, with access to resources to help. You can complete them on your own time, except when online workshops have been set up to guide you through certain sections.
You will be able to conduct valuation assessment of your startup and business model, with strategic suggestion provided by experts to enhance them.
At the end of the program, startups will be invited to pitch to investors.
Desired Outcomes: We hope to achieve three desired outcomes:
Entrepreneurs learn skill sets needed to assess their startups risks and how to manage them (something that is important to investors),
Entrepreneurs can demonstrate potential of their startups through relevant data and presentation (developing effective pitch deck and pitching skill set), and
By reducing unintended/implicit biases, through our unique approach, helping investors to identify promising startups to invest in.
The Selection Criteria
Must be an early-stage startup with the potential for high-growth
Must solve a big problem
Must have at least a woman, a minority, or disadvantaged entrepreneur as a founder
Must be looking for early-stage funding
Must be willing to come to Bay Area, CA at our final event to meet the investors (currently travel and accommodation costs are not included in the program.)
The goal and objectives The goal of the program is to help early-stage startups increase their odds of success and to raise funds, while reducing stakeholders' implicit biases through our tools and approach. The main objectives of the pilot are:
To help entrepreneurs assess the valuation of their startup and what is affecting it,
Assess startups risks and learn about risks assessment and management, and
Analyze their probability of success and how to increase that.
The results will be comparable to how most investors assess growth potential of a early-stage startup prior to investment, for which they spend huge sums of money.
There will be no cost or fees for entrepreneurs selected for this pilot. Note: All Information provided by the startups will be for our internal purposes only. We do not share your information with investors or other stakeholders without your consent.
Overcoming stakeholders' unintended biases
We all have implicit and unconscious biases. Our pilot program intends to reduce stakeholders' biases through a unique model and tools. Unfortunately unintended biases causes investors to lose billions of investment dollars every year. Investors miss out on promising investment deals while promising ventures have difficulties accessing capital. We hope to change that!
Including Investors and their concerns
In order for our pilot program to succeed we have included investors concerns, objectives, and investment risks. We have developed our program in collaboration with Investors to address these issues effectively. We invite early-stage investors to join our program and share its benefits with startups.
Supporting underrepresented entrepreneurs
Our program has been designed to provide innovative tools and a supportive platform for women and minority entrepreneurs who are developing startups. Our main goal is to help entrepreneurs showcase potential of their ventures to mentors and investors. We connect them to resources.
We need your support!
We are inviting investors, incubators, foundations, corporations, and thought leaders to join us. We are piloting our program in the next few weeks. As part of our pilot we will sign up women and minority owned startups to use our platform. Investors will have access to identify most promising startups.
We can reach our full potential when we include everyone to build a better world for all.
